The original skating rink in Neerlandia was constructed in 1944 on the Co-op store property. In 1959 a new regulation size rink was built on the Neerlandia School property and in 1976 a new rink was constructed.*
This rink was dismantled in 2015 to make way for the new school that has now been built on the former rink site.
Plans and fundraising are underway for a new rink on the original Co-op store yard.
The 5 phase plan for the new rink project:
Phase one: Site cleanup, set up new outdoor ice rink.
Phase two: Ice plant and super structure foundation.
Phase three: Build super structure.
Phase four: Finish lower level: dressing rooms, washrooms, concession, etc.
Phase five: Community hall on second story of super structure.
